This is my first front cover for a school magazine:

Student and staff opinions on school magazines

Year 7:


We asked a group of year 7's what kind of things they would want on a school magazine this is what they said:

• They wanted pictures of celebrities like one direction and JLS on the front cover.
• Free giveaways, for example house points and free canteen vouchers e.t.c.
• A game section where they can play crossword and horoscope e.t.c.
• They wanted the colours to be different for each time of the month, they didn't want the colours of the school involved.
• They wanted achievements posted on the magazine.
• They also wanted it to be released once a month.
• They wanted the teachers to be made fun of in the magazine.

Staff:

We also asked a couple member of staffs what they think should be in the magazine this is what they said:

• They wanted the magazine to be mainly focused on the students.
• They wanted it to be released termly as they thought it would be rushed if we did it monthly.
• They wanted a specific person on the front cover.
• They wanted a page where students can write their opinions.
• They wanted students and teachers opinions of shortage of school holidays.
• They wanted a section on where people can see what events are coming up and when they are coming up.
• They would also like to see more of students opinions and copies of their work in the magazine.
• They also said that we could advertise certain businesses on the back of our magazines.

Male students:

We also asked a group of male students what kind of things they wanted on the magazine this is what they said:

• They wanted pictures of attractive girls on the front cover and throughout the magazine.
• They wanted more pictures than writing in the magazine.
• They also wanted the magazine to be released once a fortnight.
• They wanted cartoons in the magazine that relate to something from school, for example teachers e.t.c.

Example of good school magazines

This is our first lesson of blogging, what we had to do was find examples of good and bad school magazines. The first magazine I found was PHOENIX magazine:

• It has a big colourful title
• Picture of phoenix covers the whole page
• Comic style writing throughout the the magazine
• The colour of the title links in with the picture as they both have the same colours
• Big clear title in the middle of the page
• The speech writing is in capitals emphasising that there is a huge phoenix in the sky
• Explosion of colours on the front cover

Overall this is a good front cover that get your attention right away.
